The region of Darjeeling is located in the foothills of the Himalaya mountains and is a magical place where the forces of nature combine to create perfect growing conditions for tea, high up in the mountains. The spectacular setting of Darjeeling befits its teas, which are referred to as the “champagne of teas” and consistently fetch the highest prices at auction. Some plants grow on slopes over 6000ft high, making plucking extremely difficult; but well worth it for the exquisite infusion of a premium Darjeeling tea!
First Flush Darjeeling Tea: The first growths of the new season are referred to as the first flush. A tea plant will produce several flushes of new growths over nine months of plucking, however the first flush is prized for it’s unique characteristics and astringent flavour.
Second Flush Darjeeling Tea: Second Flush Darjeeling teas are less astringent than those of the first flush and are characterized by a more “mature” flavour. The second flush produces teas with a more rounded flavour often with notes of fruit, nuts or spice.
